PORT FIVE SIX

Brunch is totally my thing. Sunday and brunch is such a perfect partner to have my weekend right. Sipping good coffee, enjoying my french toast or pancake or waffles, I can really have that on my kind of Sunday everyday.

So I heard that this new cafe, called Port Five Six, located in Serpong area, offered good quality of brunch. Heading to Gading Serpong area has been a weekend ritual with my brother, so I don't really mind to drive those miles to try something new here.

Port Five Six is pretty. I can say that since my first step here. I really like the ambiance accompanied with their dim light and natural sunlight from the window. They also have this comfort corner where you can spend hours in their lazy pillow. Everything is so instagenic!

This coffee shop corner honestly reminded me of one comfy cafe in West Jakarta area.

HOT CAPPUCCINO-IDR 29k

One cup of cappuccino to start my brunch. It was not strong like the way I liked and the texture was kinda watery. It was not my best cup for sure. The price was kinda surprised me, with 29k, I guess they are not meant to be specialized in coffee.

CHICKEN WAFFLE-68k

I could say I fell in love with the presentation. Waffle was looking good, not to mention the appetizing egg and chicken. The waffle was fluffy kinda waffle, and I did not mind to have that, since some people prefer to have it crispy. Egg was yummy and beautifully cooked. I really loved the sweet aftertaste they have in the seasoning. I guessed it was the hoisin sauce that made it good! I wished they give it more generously to make it more flavorful!

EGG BENEDICT-IDR 73k
At first I did order egg shinjuku which contained salmon on it. Too bad they ran out of it and they offered me to have egg benedict instead. Coming in such a good presentation, I did have high hope on this one. The bread was good, egg was cooked perfectly, but I thought the flavor was kinda under seasoned. The flavor was slightly bland for me, made me tempt to add a pinch of salt and pepper on it.

I was temped to order another waffle, which had Peanut Butter and Jelly on it (major sucker for PB and J). Too bad I was too full!

Good lighting made one happy blogger.

Overall I had one quite satisfying brunch here. Place was pretty and effortless to take any pictures while all the food came in such a good presentation. The food was alright, but I did not think it will make me back for more. Price was kinda high for Serpong neighborhood, I spent around IDR 250k for all the food and coffee. But still, Port Five Six is a good place to chill!

KAKOLAIT - GADING SERPONG

Talking about chocolate, this happy pill is surely one of the addicting substance that can really boost your day. Kakolait, as the first ever chocolate cafe in Gading Serpong, is here to spread the happiness. I knew they were going to open it since long several months ago, and I knew instantly that this kind of cafe could really make a hit.

Kakolait, stands humbly in Gading Serpong area, aligned with Turning Point, Daily Press, Torigen, and Porto. The place where all those good foods reside, I can say. Kakolait is decorated with its brown decoration, homey atmosphere, make me wanna sit there to spend the day, drowning with my favorite books. For now they only have their first floor open for public, but soon they're gonna expanding to the second floor!

Lava cake, hot chocolate, waffles, they have it all. I just can't wait to try all those goodness!

Ps: I can imagine myself to have my hot chocolate, wearing my favorite sweater, and treat myself a good book here.

SIGNATURE HOT CHOCOLATE

with crunchy balls (40k)

Hot chocolate is one thing you have to try here. They have it in two ways: milk or dark. Me? Go for dark chocolate, for sure! I like the dense hot chocolate topped with the crunchy waffle balls. Giving it a twist while you're taking a sip of it. Their hot chocolate is surely one perfect companion in this rainy weather.

KOKOLAVA-40k

This is,my friend, is one thing you do not wanna miss in Kakolait. Their kokolava may be looked simple, but surely it will give you a big smile, ear to ear, after your first bite. Dense warm chocolate, with dark gooey chocolate filling, topped with vanilla ice cream. I really love the consistency of their chocolate filling, messy messy good!
Hint: drink your hot chocolate first before taking a bite of this kokolava goodness. Comparing two of these goodness, the chocolate drink may be 'thinner' than this kokolava.

WAFFLE SET-60k
double waffles with choice of 3 toppings

Inspired by heavenly waffles of Max Brenner, Kakolait are here to offer us the same goodness Max B has. The waffle is slightly denser than any waffles I had before in Jakarta, and as a waffle freak I do not mind at all. Perfect level of sweetness, while I find that their waffle consistency is more cakey. Some of you may find this waffle is too heavy, so I do recommend to share the portion. They're also planning to launch their airy waffle, soon!

RED GRANITA-25k
dragon fruit and lychee

All of these sweetness may kill you (happily), but worry not because they have this red granita to neutralize it! Basically it's a mixture of dragon fruits and lychee: refreshing, cold, and sweet!

Overall I am so impressed with Kakolait. Strong concept, proper chocolate drinks and sweets. I really enjoyed everything I have in Kakolait. They also serve coffee and juices, for those who want to try something else. But well, you really should have chocolate based stuffs when you're on chocolate cafe, right?

TORIGEN TEPPANYAKI BAR GADING SERPONG

As you follow me instagram (@jechristy) I had this pleasing dining experience at one of restaurant at Gading Serpong area. I am a big fan of Japanese food and I heard that Torigen at Gading Serpong has quite a good review. Honestly I did not believe it until I try it by myself, not because I did not trust people, I just know that everyone have their personal favorite and opinion. So I did go to try this one.

Torigen Teppanyaki is located in 'coffee shops area' in Gading Serpong, aligned with Turning Point coffee, Daily Press, and its sister chain restaurant Porto from Altima Group. Place-wise it was not a big one, but quite comfortable. First floor was designed for those who wants to eat at sushi bar with live view for the chef and second floor was designer for larger group.

Comfy seating is on point. I personally loved their design for interior and menu. Classy in humble way.

PORK OKONOMIYAKI-55k
The first thing caught my eye was this: pork okonomiyaki! They have several choices for the topping such as beef and seafood, but surely I would go for the pork one!  Okonomiyaki was quite nice and size was good for sharing with 2-3 people. The pork itself was actually pork bacon bits and quite small, but I still can catch the pork bits with my tastebuds.

SALMON CRISPY ROLL - 55k for 8 slices /39k for 4 slices
I must say, I was quite impressed with their sushi. Theirs was not a kind of the fresh original sushi without any sauce for sure, but somehow the flavor was not overwhelming at all. You know that somehow mayonnaise and any other sauces could make it less original and also high in calories. Their salmon crispy roll was good!

PORK SHOUGAYAKI BENTO-55k
Presentation was the thing I loved the most from this bento. It was colorful and pretty effortlessly. Actually it was a bento of Japanese rice, fried tofu, and grilled pork. Everything was nice but I found the rice was way too salty. I did asked the waitress and they said it was not supposed to be a salty one, might be dropping any salt on it, I guess. But overall, it was an affordable and enjoyable dish!

KATSU JUU-55k
Another pork creation. Yes it was a portion of pork katsu with egg and bed of steamed rice. It was not bad. Kind of comfort food that you knew would not ever fail when you did not in the mood of trying something new.

Overall I was happy to have my lunch here. Staff was friendly, knowledge of food was good too! Food was affordable and enjoyable as well. Make sure to give it a visit when you are in the neighboourhood.
