ASIATALE RESTO AND BAR

Modern Chinese food is one kind of new comer in Jakarta lately. Chinese food is one thing that related with something authentic and oldies, but Chinese food in Jakarta has been progressing to something fancy, fun, and modern. I have to say that Asiatale is not the first one to apperear as a modern chinese food restaurant, but let's see if Asiatale is a newcomer that need to be reckoned.

Location-wise, it was strategic and easy to be found, reside in Suryo street aligned with many well-known restaurants in that area. Place was looking good with a touch of sophisticated ambiance. I could imagine having a private dinner party with Chinese theme here with cheongsam that match the atmosphere of its dim light.

I love the pretty design. It reminded me of old luxurious Chinese restaurant somehow.

ICE TEA-20k

At first I thought that their menu was quite affordable, range between 20k-150k. Turned out the serving size was small, and honestly I was not a fond of food with tiny serving size. I mean I don't mind paying more to get its original size like the way it should be. Personal opinion, tho.

UNCLE TIONG'S SEAFOOD CAKWE-42k

Despite its tiny serving size, actually it was tasty. Seasoned well, it was kinda sticky, was not too oily as well.

SZECHUAN STYLE WONTON - 26k

One of the best seller, they said. Steamed wonton with chicken, shrimp, mushroom with hot and chilly sauce. Small portion, actually the filling was quite nice but I'd prefer to have it saltier. The skin was kinda bland but the sauce was helping to give it a kick.

HOCHIAK FRIED KWETIAU with duck egg- 35k

It was quite a simple dish but turned out became one of my favorite. Chewy kwetiau was well seasoned enhanced by salted egg. Well, it might be a humble bowl, but this one was the one which filled my tummy well!

SALTED EGG YOLK SESAME BALL - 26k

This one, was the winner of my lunch! Tasty crunchy sesame ball filled with melted egg yolk custard. Recommended to end your palate with something sweet like this. I liked it, enough said.

Overall I was enjoying it but honestly it was just ordinary. The dimsum was good but it was not that special to make me come all along the way. Taste was quite nice but the serving size was too small even for me. Anyway they are having dimsum promotion for 18k only and the waiter did not give it as a suggestion for me so I did not know about it until I paid it in the end.

BOON TONG KEE PIK

Good news for you chicken rice lover: Boon Tong Kee is opened at Pantai Indah Kapuk! Yes, that famous Boon Tong Kee from Singapore is finally serving their well-known recipe to us. So excited to try this one, let's see how good it is!

Place was nice, located in the row of Legend of Noodle/Native Coffee shop near Pantai Indah Kapuk hospital. It was suitable for family dinner, and I tried it with my #JKTfoodies family.

I did not take any picture of the hainan rice, but they shaped it into pyramid on the plate. It was soo soo fragrant yet I could imagine the goodness of the taste. It was rich and tasty, too bad the portion was quite small.

BOON TONG KEE'S SIGNATURE ROASTED CHICKEN - HALF 105K/WHOLE 198K
I put high expectation on this. I found it quite dry and did not juicy. Taste was okay, seasoned just fine. Skin was crispy enough, but still, I was hoping better than this. But the portion was generous and perfect for sharing!

BOON TONG KEE'S SIGNATURE BOILED CHICKEN -  HALF 105K/WHOLE 198K
I preferred the boiled chicken, because it was juicier than the roasted one. It was tender, seasoned well, and big in portion. I recommend you guys to try this one!

TOFU CLAYPOT SEAFOOD - 98.5K
Heart warming bowl. Everything on the plate was tasty, perfect for your rainy season. Too bad they were using Chinese tofu instead of Japanese tofu, because I found it rare to use Chinese tofu and somehow I did not like the consistency of it. The Japanese one would give smooth silky tofu and better taste, I guess.

SQUID RINGS WITH MAYONNAISE - 70K
Crunchy squid, well seasoned. It was just okay. Served with mayonnaise, it could one of those comfort foods everyone gonna love, right?

SWEET AND SOUR PORK - 125K
Pork was tender, crunchy on the skin. They supposed to be sweet and sour, but I did not find any sour taste on it. It felt like they were using honey for the sauce, and it was kinda too sweet, even for me.

CRISPY CEREAL DORY FISH - 125K
Did not see this coming, but this one was one of my favorite here! Generous cuts of crunchy dory fish, well seasoned cereal, very enjoyable!

Overall it was quite okay. The highlighted one was the hainan rice itself. The other dishes was just okay. Portion-wise, the chinese restaurant was suitable for sharing.
Good luck for your opening!

LITTLE MING SENAYAN CITY

MYou have heard about Ming Village. It is one of my choice when I decided to have Chinese food in mal. Recently ,they came up with an idea to have place which was more suitable with young lifestyle, so Little Ming was born. It was located right next to Ming Village, with minimalist and more fun ambiance.

Wall decoration

The place was quite big, with capacity of 70 people. Ambiance was nice and kinda dark, suitable for the atmosphere of dimsum bar.

Prawn Youtiao -48k
Crunchy deep fried cakwe with prawn filling.

Ebi nori furrita - 55k
Spring roll with prawn filling and nori.

Salted egg runbing - 42k
My favorite appetizer! Basically it was fish spring roll with served with salted egg sauce. Salted wgg sauce was palatable with well-seasoned and crunchy rolls. I can have it all for sure!

Char ramien tamago -48k
It was the champion of the night! Perfectly cooked fried noodles topped with fried egg. The noodle was kind of my favorite, with a hint of black pepper sauce to make it great. It was surely my dfavorite finition of comfort food, and I think I would have it wherever I visit Little Ming.

Torikatsu Ming Fan - 58k
A hot bowl consisted of house special rice with deep fried chicken. I found the rice was too ordinary, because they used the usual steamed rice. But it was okay because the chicken katsu was greeaat! It was very tender and well seasoned, together with egg and veggies.

Tori Sanbei Ming Fan - 56k
This one was good too! Their special Ming fan served with chicken katsu. the rice was kinda sticky and fragrant, enjoyable to my palate. The chicken katsu was also good, and their special sambal was really won my heart! I could recommend this for you! Simple yet tasty

Shiaopeppa spice wings - 42k
It was everyone favorite! Chicken wings topped with salt and pepper flakes. Easily won everybody's heart.

So basically I had quite a good time. It was something new to have a fusion of Japanese and Chinese restaurant in the mal like Little Ming. Taste was fine and price was enjoyable, moreover it was supported by good ambiance, a perfect place to enjoy a good vibe with friends. Haven't try it yet? Go try it real soon!

Tim Ho Wan Jakarta

Great news for Tim Ho Wan's lover because they're opening their very first branch in Indonesia, right here in Jakarta! Yes, it is that famous Michelin star Tim Ho Wan that I am talking about right now! I did have one in Hongkong and it tasted really great. I just could not wait to give it a try once I knew they were opening their door here.

Located in Pantai Indah Kapuk, Tim Ho Wan's fans saturated this place since 1 hour before their opening hour. Crazy right? Location wise, it was not that big, but they are gonna improving by providing the second floor for dining too!

The main reason to be here : baked BBQ pork bun (38.8k)!
Tasted really great, crunchy sweet coating with soft, tasty, and generous filling. They did not let me down on this one, tasted the same like the one I had in Hongkong!

I really had a dimsum madness here. Tried their pan fried carrot cake (31.8k) which was a bit too gooey for me. The warm steamed egg cake (28.8k) which was very enjoyable and soft. I personally loved their beancurd skin roll with pork and shrimp (33.8k), the sauce was great! Siewmay (36.8k) and hakau (38.8k) tasted good too!

Rows of BBQ baked bun. I could not stop myself from munching my second bun!

I did try their vermicelli roll with BBQ pork (36.8k), vermicelli roll with prawn (38.8k), and vermicelli roll with sweet and sesame sauce(28.8k). My favorite was the prawn one, although the pork one was okay. I was not a fan of their sweet kind of vermicelli, because it tasted like plain vermicelli with peanut butter sauce.

Overall I really had a great time here. Price was quite expensive, but their pork bun really is a must try! Best of luck for Tim Ho Wan Indonesia!

48 Signature Dimsum

Sunday dimsum has always been my favorite. A moment to spend with the family, time to catch up with all the gossips, and sharing what's-on-life-lately. My uncle and grand dad always pick their favorite dimsum place. And usually they did not try with something new, they did stick to the tradition.

Lately some dimsum place has been popping out everywhere, and I decided to give it a try. Sacrificing my usual favorite dimsum place, and hoping that this one could give me a satisfaction.

48 Dimsum at Pantai Indah Kapuk has its own corner. Located across the PIK market, this Chinese restaurant is quite spacious with strong Chinese ambiance around. Such a promising atmosphere to have Chines meal.

Pao with sweet salted egg filling. (25,8k)
Well, this one was everyone's favorite. Better have a really good one to serve this one because so many comparison out there. Theirs was surprisingly good. The size might be too small, and the bun was a little too thick compared with the filling. But the filling was good.

Steamed siewmay (28,8)
I found their siewmay was a bit' 'crunchy'. Tastewise, this one was quite good, but was not a perfect one. I had one better that this. But the fried chilly helped a lot!

Lomaikai with chicken (25,8)
Sticky glutinous rice with salted egg and chicken. Taste quite good, generous filling, but the size might be too small. (again!)

Fried shrimp wonton with mayonnaise (28k)
Crunchy and quite good. Nothing special on this one, though.

Overall the taste was quite good, but still could not beat my favorite dimsum in town. IMHO the size of everything was too small compared to the price. The service was way too slow (only 4 tables were seated), which was quite a turn off.

Canton Paradise Jakarta

Hello from planet Earth! (yes I am still here!)
These last two months was super awesome. I was on Obstetric and Gynecology department at my hospital and things were super hectic back then. Those pregnant mothers were consuming majority of my time, while keeping up with my baby blog was kinda neglected. Too many awesome things had been learnt and right now I am back on track!

Another creation of Paradise Group, which was not surprising, quite a big hit. Introducing Canton Paradise, which is located at Mal Kelapa Gading 3. Decorated in purple and silver, the ambiance was pretty cozy. They are serving Chinese food, and of course, the one that could easily win my heart, dimsum! ;)

Crispy BBQ Honey Pork Bun (28.8k)
Remember the legendary honey pork bun from Tim Ho Wan? This one was such a reminder to the goodness of theirs. Crispy-outside-and-fluffy-inside-bun filled with caramelized BBQ pork, who could resist? Thinking about it right now just make me droll, a lot.

Cod Fish with Plum Sauce (48.8k)
Tasty and sweet. This one could easily win my heart. Love the glaze all over the boneless cod fish. The  sauce was such a major win!

Crispy Bacon Roll with Cheese (32.8)
Look at the name, beautifully said. Crispy fried pork bacon in rolls with mayonnaise on top. Each bite of it were surely giving me a guilty pleasure. Too bad I found it was a bit oily, and could not feel any cheese.

Steamed Teochew Dumpling (22.8)
Simplicity at its best. A portion of teochew dumpling filled with hint of mushroom, and whatever it took to make it delicious. I love it how a simple dish could really please my tongue.

Overall it was a great Chinese lunch. Too bad it was too far from my home, but I was totally pleased with the delicious food and great service.

Fook Yew : An eccentric Chinese

Chinese food. One of the biggest diversity in food industry. You could find the kind of grandma's old recipe on it, or the one that has been deconstructed into a modern one. Nowadays Chinese restaurant is easily discovered in shopping malls, while in old days those restaurants was spotted in certain area of Jakarta.

Colorful and bold. Eccentric. Bold. Those words are perfect descriptions for this modern Chinese restaurant. The old-fashioned table is really something, it was like spotting the obsolete thing among the modernity. The name itself is really ear-catching. Fook yew. Everyone could easily remember it in a second.

Pretty red cages. So Chinese, huh?

Crispy egg corn (36k)
An invention for a plate of easy bite! Basically it was a bowl of rice crispy cooked with salted egg-corn.The combination of  crunchiness was really enjoyable. But somehow I found it hard to eat those tiny bites with chopstick. I demand for more salted egg-corn on it!

4 Flavor dumpling (20k)
4 pieces of wonton-like with the vinegar sauce The filling was different for each color. The green one was filled with chicken and chives. The purple one was chicken and beef. The chicken and shrimp was in the orange one. Too bad I could not recall the white one (It was chicken with something). The taste was okay, but I could not really tell the difference among thos fillings.

Chasiu chicken bao (20k)
A plate of goodness! Fluffy bao with tasty chicken chasiu inside was beyond my expectation. The pinch of sweetness on the top of the bao was adding the delicious taste. I could really eat it everyday as my breakfast, or the companion for my afternoon tea. It was love at the first bite.

My most favorite of all : Shanghai honey toast (30k)
It was like having all my favorites on a plate. Fried bread, honey, egg, and peanut butter. Yes, their version of honey toast was with peanut butter inside, interesting, isn't it? 3 generous big slices of eggy-fried-bread with thick peanut butter inside and showered with honey. Not to mention the pinch of butter on top! The taste was really overwhelming. It was tasted paradise when the peanut butter and honey melted in your mouth. (I am such a peanut butter freak!)

The place was easily caught my attention. The creation of the modern Chinese food was such an stride innovation. Gonna back for sure!
